Around 50 automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to police.
Automobiles, walls and postal boxes were defaced, in some cases with swastikas, they reported in a statement.
Law enforcement state they were alerted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued substance.
The liquid had been placed in the form of a swastika, they reported.
Police then found multiple other marked cars and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations banning the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement report initial examinations show the substance was most likely human bodily fluid.
"There is still no lead as to its source; officials are presently not informed of any physical harm in relation with the event," they commented.
City officials said they were attempting "to resolve the case" and have requested to the community for information.
An important political figure commented the incident rendered him speechless and had to be addressed promptly.
"This event strikes at the core of Hanau and revives the pain of the right-wing violent incident five years ago," he stated on online, referring to the killing of nine individuals by a gunman aiming at residents of migrant background in February 2020.
